The final clue has a path that reveals the exact location of the treasure, guiding them deeper into the depths of the cave. With lanterns held high, they navigate through twisting passages until they reach a chamber bathed in an ethereal glow. There, hidden within a crevice, they find a chest adorned with carvings of stars and waves.
The quilters exchange triumphant glances, their hands trembling as they unlock the chest. General Instructions
Clue #4 will need to be completed. You should notice the beautiful design combines the friendship star block and the surprise nine-patch block to create a multi-dimensional pattern. Let's showcase this simple yet intricate pattern by adding a thin red inner border and a white outer border blocked by red square corners. You'll love the simplicity of these borders yet the dynamic effect on the quilt pattern itself.
Note: Correction from Week 1: Total white fabric should be 3 yds. You may need extra white fabric to complete the border.
Cutting Instructions
Cut eight (8) 1-1/2" strips by Width of Fabric (WOF)
Cut four (4) 3 1/2" squares
Cut eight (8) 3 1/2" strips by WOF
Sewing Instructions
Step 1:
Join two 1 1/2" red strips and trim the ends to remove the holes and fringe. Put Right Sides Together (RST) and join together at the ends to make one long strip. Press then repeat until you have four long strips.
Step 2:
Join two 3 1/2" white strips and trim the ends to remove the holes and fringe. Put Right Sides Together (RST) and join together at the ends to make one long strip. Press then repeat until you have four long strips.
Step 3:
Align one long red strip RST to the side of the pieced top. Sew then press seam towards the red border then use your rotary cutter to trim the extra red strip. Repeat for the other side of the pieced top. Now add the red strip to the top. Sew, press, trim them repeat for the bottom.
Step 4:
Align one long white strip RST to each side of the pieced top. Sew then press seam towards the white border then use your rotary cutter to trim the extra white strip.
Step 5:
Measure the width of the top along the red border only. (Do not measure with the side white strips.) Cut the white strip to equal the width of the red border plus 1/2" inch.
Step 6:
Sew one red 3 1/2" square to each end of the white strip and place RST to the top. Sew and press. Repeat Step 5 and 6 to complete the bottom. Give the top one final crisp press.
