Sewing Instructions
It's time to complete your 18 friendship star blocks (Clue #2) and your 17 surprise nine-patch blocks (Clue #3) in case you have a few left to do.
Step 1:
Join each block in the order below for row 1. Start row 1 with the friendship star block on the left and pair with a surprise nine-patch block and place Right Sides Together (RST). Place a pin in the joints then sew a 1/4" seam. Press the seam to the right. Continue sewing the blocks RST and press to the right until you have connected all five blocks.

Step 2:
Start row 2 with the surprise nine-patch block on the left followed by the friendship star block. Sew the blocks RST using a 1/4" seam and pin at the joints. Press each seam to the left until you have connected all five blocks.
Tip: Alternating the direction of the block seams by every other row will help to align the rows together by nesting the seams when joining the rows together.

Step 3:
Join row 1 and row 2 RST and placing a pin at each block joint. Sew a 1/4" seam the length of the rows. Press seams open to reduce the bulk or you can press the seams downward if you want to quilt using a stitch-in-the-ditch pattern.
Step 4:
Repeat Steps 1 through 3 until you have all seven rows connected.
